Three persons were arrested with approximately 14 grams of heroin and 509 grams of cannabis in two separate cases in Shimla district, police said on Tuesday.
In the first case, the district police arrested an individual identified as Jai Singla, a resident of Basal village in Solan district, with 14 grams of chitta from the Taradevi area near Shimla.
According to the police, a Special Cell team of the district police was patrolling near Taradevi when it received a tip-off that a drug peddler travelling from Solan to Shimla was carrying heroin. Acting swiftly, the police intercepted the car in which the accused was travelling and recovered the contraband during checking. The accused was subsequently arrested.
A case under Section 21 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, has been registered against him.
In another case, police arrested two persons, identified as Jitender Thakur and Rajan Thakur, both residents of Lower Khalini in Shimla, with around 509 grams of cannabis (charas) in Rohru area of the district.
The action followed a tip-off received by the police that some individuals travelling from Chirgaon to Rohru were carrying cannabis. Acting promptly, police intercepted their car in Rohru and recovered the contraband concealed inside the vehicle. Both accused were arrested and the cannabis was seized.
A case under Sections 20, 25 and 29 of the NDPS Act has been registered against the accused.
SSP Gaurav Singh confirmed the arrests and said further investigation was under way.
