The Central University of Himachal Pradesh (CUHP) has achieved a significant academic milestone by securing the ninth position among government universities in the Indian Institutional Ranking Framework (IIRF), 2026, emerging as the highest-ranked university from Himachal Pradesh.
“The achievement reflects the institution’s rapid growth in academics, research, innovation and student development,” asserted Prof SP Bansal, the Vice-Chancellor, while talking to The Tribune.
The CUHP earned an impressive fourth rank in academic reputation and ninth in research outcome, underlining its commitment to quality education and knowledge creation.
The university’s implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP), 2020, introduction of multidisciplinary programmes and emphasis on experiential learning have significantly strengthened its academic profile.
The institution has expanded its global footprint through 62 memoranda of understanding (MoUs) with universities and organisations across Germany, the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, the UAE, and Kazakhstan, while its joint MBA programme with Indiana University of Pennsylvania marks a major step towards internationalisation.
Research excellence remains a defining strength, with an h-index of 71, over 40,000 citations, more than 5,000 publications, and 42 patents and design copyrights. Sponsored research projects worth over Rs 20 crore further testify to its growing scholarly impact.
Ranked seventh nationally in public perception, the CUHP continues to champion community outreach, sustainable development, and student welfare through skill development, sports, research fellowships, and rural engagement initiatives.
With its permanent Dehra campus nearing completion and category-I UGC autonomy reinforcing its institutional credibility, the university is steadily advancing towards becoming a nationally and globally recognised centre of higher education.
