Gupta, who retired on May 31 and has since been appointed Chairman of the Punjab State Electricity Regulatory Commission, alleged that Baldi made false, malicious, defamatory and reputation-damaging statements against him through a press statement that was subsequently circulated in the media.
According to the complaint, Baldi accused Gupta of passing “illegal orders”, acting “without jurisdiction” and issuing directions in favour of the proponents of the Chester Hills project.
Gupta has termed these allegations false, reckless and deliberately misleading, asserting that all orders passed by him in his official capacity were issued strictly within the ambit of lawful administrative authority.
Gupta has also sought action against lawyer Vinay Sharma, alleging that Sharma levelled false, reckless and malicious allegations in a complaint filed on March 24 despite knowing that the accusations were factually incorrect and legally untenable. The police have initiated an investigation into the matter.
