Jewelery worth 10 Lakh stolen from Mandi Indira market showroom

Thieves did two-foot-wide hole in the back wall of the about 20 feet high showroom and walked into the showroom. They took about five kg of silver ornaments and stones and disappeared.

On Friday night, in an incident of theft at famous Indira Market of Mandi thieves stole 10 lac of jewelry. Burglars broke in a jewelry producer Ratan Jewellers showroom  and stole ornaments worth one million rupees. Theft left market shoppers in shock.

According to sources, thieves were trying to make a big theft in Indira market for last couple of years.  Apart from minor thefts in the recent past thieves had attempted a theft at the branch of State Bank of Patiala located at some distance from the showroom. Nevertheless, police and shopkeepers remained supine.

According to information, there is about is about four feet wide gallery between State Bank of Patiala premises and Indira market road. The thieves entered the gallery of the market through the toilet. Then, the did a two feet wide hole in the back wall of the about 20 feet high showroom and from there walked into the showroom. They took around five kg of silver ornaments and expensive stones housed in showrooms and disappeared.

Administration came into action after theft

Amid growing incidents of piracy in the market Indra police summoned the city council executive officer  Urvashi Walia on Friday and directed to close market gallery and repair broken toilets doors.

CCTV cables cut

After entering showroom burglars cut the CCTV camera wire, as first task.

Sadar police is investigating the case. The accused will be behind bars soon. Urban police patrolling the city, expanding, and has been instructed to keep a close eye on anti-social elements. -Prem Kumar Thakur, SP Mandi.
