Location

Spiti lies between 32° 17′ 0″ N and 78° 0′ 0″ E. Spiti is surrounded by high mountain ranges. Rohtang pass separates Lahul and Spiti valley from the Kullu valley. Kunzum pass separate Lahaul and Spiti valley form each other.

Spiti Valley is beautiful Valley and situated on the bank of Spiti river. The Valley surrounded by high mountain ranges. The name “Spiti” means middle land. It is desert mountain valley. It is a cold desert. There is no rain in  monsoon.

Culture

This valley is research and cultural centre for Buddhists. The valley has monastery like Ki Monastery,Tabo Monastery. The Pin Valley of Spiti is home to the few surviving Buchen Lamas of the Nyingmapa sect of Buddhism. The small town of Manali was the beginning of an ancient trade route to Ladakh and, from there, over the Karakoram Pass on to Yarkand and Khotan in the Tarim Basin. Spiti is summer home to hundreds of semi-nomadic Gaddi sheep and goat herders who come to this valley for grazing their animals from the surrounding villages and sometimes as far as 250 km. They enter the valley during summer as the snow melts and leave just a few days before first snowfall of the season. Source: Wikipedia

How to Access

By Air: The nearest airport is Bhuntar.

By Train: The nearest railway station is Shimla.

By Bus: There is no access to railway station and airport. The Spiti can reached by roads. The Valley is well connected by roads.

Spiti – Climate

In winter due to heavy snow fall the temperature can reach below freezing point. Heavy woolens clothes are recommended. In monsoon there is no rain fall in the valley. In summers the weather is pleasant but woolens clothes are recommended.
