Himachal to witness another spell of rain from October 6; yellow alerts issued

Despite the withdrawal of the monsoon, Himachal Pradesh is likely to witness snowfall in the higher hills and heavy rain in other parts of the state from October 6 onwards.

The State Meteorological Centre has also issued yellow alerts for the state from October 6 to October 9, with significant precipitation expected across the state.

For October 6, yellow alerts have been issued for Shimla, Kullu, Kangra, Mandi, Una, Bilaspur and Hamirpur.

Light to moderate rain, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds, is expected at isolated places in these districts. The centre has warned of damage to standing crops and partial damage to vulnerable structures.

The centre has also forecast light snowfall in the higher hills and light to moderate rain in other parts of the state till October 11. During this period, minimum temperatures are expected to drop by 2°C to 3°C, while maximum temperatures are likely to fall by 2°C to 5°C.

Meanwhile, the weather remained mostly dry across the state during the past 24 hours, with most places witnessing a bright, sunny day.

Minimum temperatures were 2°C to 3°C above normal, ranging between 4°C and 24°C. Similarly, maximum temperatures were 2°C to 3°C above normal, ranging between 18°C and 34°C.

The maximum temperature in Shimla was 24.5°C. Dharamshala recorded a maximum temperature of 28°C, Manali 24.4°C, Mandi 31.6°C, Solan 28°C, Nahan 30.8°C, Kalpa 25.4°C, Bhuntar 32.6°C, Sundernagar 31.4°C, Keylong 24.3°C, Kangra 31.3°C, Kufri 18.1°C, Bilaspur 33°C and Chamba 29.2°C.

The highest maximum temperature in the state was 34.2°C, recorded in Una, while the lowest minimum temperature was 4.2°C, recorded in Kukumseri in Lahaul and Spiti.
