Four drug peddlers were arrested with 11.75 grams of chitta (heroin) in the Kumarsain area of Shimla district, police said today.
The accused have been identified as Lalit Kumar (28), a resident of Sarkaghat in Mandi district, and Sanjeev Kumar (41), Vikram (26) and Kuldeep (31), all residents of Rampur Bushahr in Shimla district.
According to the police, the action was taken after a police team patrolling the Kingal area on National Highway 05 stopped the accused for checking. During the search, the police recovered the contraband from their possession.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Shimla, Gaurav Singh confirmed the arrests and said a case under Sections 21 and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, had been registered against the accused. Further investigation is underway.
In a separate action against illegal drug cultivation, the district police also destroyed around 1,600 cannabis plants in the Chirgaon area.
The action followed information received by the police regarding illegal cannabis cultivation in Dhakgaon village of Chirgaon. A police team raided the location, took 20 plants into possession and destroyed the remaining around 1,600 plants on the spot.
A case under Section 20 of the NDPS Act has been registered against Diwan Chand (46), a resident of Chirgaon, and investigation has been initiated.
