Revenue Minister Jagat Singh Negi yesterday said Himachal Pradesh was still awaiting the Rs 1,500-crore financial assistance announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for monsoon-related damages during his visit to the state in September 2025.
Replying to a question by Shahpur MLA Kewal Singh Pathania during Question Hour in the Vidhan Sabha, Negi said the Prime Minister had announced the Rs 1,500-crore relief package at Dharamsala on September 9, 2025. However, even after nearly a year, the amount was yet to be released.
Negi said despite financial constraints, the state government had made efforts to provide relief to disaster-affected families. He said enhanced relief of Rs 8 lakh was now being provided to families whose houses had suffered total damage. He said Boh area of Shahpur in Kangra district had suffered losses of Rs 4.79 crore during the current monsoon, while Rs 26.65 lakh had so far been disbursed to affected families.
Rs 120 crore to be spent on tarring 800 km roads
Replying to a question by Churah MLA Hans Raj, Public Works Minister Vikramaditya Singh said Rs 120 crore would be spent on tarring 800 km of roads across the state after the monsoon. He said the price of bitumen had increased due to the Iran-US war, but the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways would bear the additional cost arising from the price escalation.
84,162 cancer patients under treatment
Replying to a question by Nachan MLA Vinod Kumar, Health Minister Dhani Ram Shandil said the annual number of cancer cases being reported in the state had remained broadly stagnant. He said 2,380 cases were reported in 2023, 2,443 in 2024 and 744 in 2025. At present, 84,162 cancer patients were under treatment in Himachal Pradesh, he informed the House.
3,355 prisoners in 14 jails against capacity of 2,580
Replying to a question by Kewal Singh Pathania, the House was informed that 3,355 prisoners were lodged in 14 jails across the state against the sanctioned capacity of 2,580.
Government formulating scrap policy: Agnihotri
Responding to another question by Shahpur MLA Kewal Singh Pathania, Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri said the government was formulating a scrap policy to bring all departments under one roof in accordance with the guidelines of the Central Government.
