Yellow alert issued as Himachal braces for intense rain spell from June 17

Himachal Pradesh is set to witness an intense spell of rainfall from June 17 onwards, with the State Meteorological Centre issuing a yellow weather alert for several districts.

According to the Met centre, a yellow alert has been issued for Shimla, Kullu, Mandi, Kangra and Chamba districts for June 17, warning of heavy rainfall at isolated places. Orange and yellow alerts have also been issued for several districts for June 18.

The centre has forecast continuous precipitation across the state till June 22. However, temperatures are expected to remain near normal during this period, with no significant change likely in either minimum or maximum temperatures over the next few days.

Meanwhile, light to moderate rainfall was recorded in many parts of the state during the past 24 hours. Kufri received 32 mm of rain, followed by Sundernagar (17.9 mm), Shimla (12.6 mm), Kangra (10.9 mm), Solan (4.6 mm), Nahan (3.8 mm) and Dharamsala (2.4 mm).

The rainfall led to a drop of 2°C to 4°C in minimum temperatures at several places. Minimum temperatures across the state ranged between 5°C and 24°C, while maximum temperatures remained near normal and varied between 19°C and 36°C.

The maximum temperature was recorded at 25.5°C in Shimla, 30°C in Dharamsala, 26.4°C in Manali, 30°C in Solan, 32.8°C in Kangra, 35.2°C in Mandi, 33.7°C in Sundernagar, 18.9°C in Kufri, 35°C in Bhuntar, 23.5°C in Kalpa, 21.7°C in Keylong, 32.8°C in Nahan and 30.5°C in Chamba.

Una recorded the highest maximum temperature in the state at 36.4°C, while the lowest minimum temperature of 5.3°C was recorded at Kukumseri in Lahaul and Spiti district.
