Rohtang Pass is situated 51 km from Manali on highway to Keylong/Leh. It offers a panoramic and beautiful mountain view. It lies between 32°22′17″N and 77°14′47″E.
About
Rohtang Pass is a high mountain pass on the Pir Panjal Range. It connects the Kullu Valley with the Lahaul and Spiti Valleys of Himachal Pradesh. The pass is open from June to October.
There are a beautiful sight of glaciers. The length of the pass is about 1 km. To the left of the pass five or six hundred feet higher is the little lake of ‘Sar Kund’.
Due to the military significance of the highway and the need to keep it open the entire year .The government began building the long Rohtang Tunnel in 2010. The tunnel will also short the distance by about 50 km and reduce the travel time between the southern and northern faces of Rohtang pass by five hours.
