Baijnath MLA Kishori Lal on Thursday performed bhoomi pujan for the proposed Baijnath-Paprola bypass, which is expected to ease traffic congestion in the two busy markets and provide smoother connectivity in the area.
According to the MLA, the nearly 7-km-long bypass would be constructed at an estimated cost of about Rs 7.82 crore. It would connect the Baijnath area through Tashi Jong and the carton factory on the Uttrala Road to the main Baijnath road.
Kishori Lal said that the construction of the bypass would be taken up on priority. He added that the main markets of Baijnath and Paprola witnessed frequent traffic jams, causing inconvenience to local residents, traders and motorists.
He added that the bypass would divert a substantial volume of traffic away from the congested market areas, reducing pressure on existing roads and making commuting easier.
The project would also be particularly beneficial for patients travelling to hospitals, as reduced congestion could help save valuable time during medical emergencies, he added.
The MLA said that improved road connectivity was essential for the growing urban areas of Baijnath and Paprola. He expressed hope that the project would be completed without unnecessary delays.
Later, Kishori Lal inspected the ongoing work on the bus stand at Baijnath and reviewed its progress. He interacted with officials and sought details regarding various aspects of the construction.
The MLA directed the authorities concerned to ensure that the project was completed within the time frame while maintaining construction quality.
He also stressed the need to avoid unnecessary delays and instructed the departments concerned to maintain coordination and complete the remaining work at the earliest.
The proposed bypass and the bus stand are expected to improve traffic management and public transport infrastructure in Baijnath, which has witnessed increasing vehicular movement in recent years.
