Four people were killed and another was seriously injured as a car carrying them plunged into a 200-metre-deep gorge on National Highway-305 near Haripur in Anni subdivision in Kullu in the wee hours of Tuesday.
The accident occurred around 3.30 am as the Hyundai Xter went out of control and fell into the gorge between Nigan and Nimla.
The deceased have been identified as Rahul Rana, Vikas, Gunjan and Bal Krishan. All four were residents of Jabbo village in Anni.
The injured, Suresh Kumar, was taken to the Civil Hospital, Anni, and later referred to Rampur Hospital.
They were returning home after attending a wedding at Baragaon in Kumarsain.
Teams from the district administration, police and fire services started a rescue operation. The steep terrain and depth of the gorge posed a challenge, and the operation continued till around 8 am.
