Heavy damage to 33 bridges due to floods

Shimla: NHAI has unloaded heavy machinery on the Kiratpur-Manali National Highway. NHAI has set a target of restoring this National Highway in the next 48 hours.

Tourists stuck in overnight jam on left bank road

2500 tourists evacuated safely from Aut
Around 2,500 tourists stranded in Aut due to Mandi-Kullu NH being unblocked by landslides have been safely evacuated on Tuesday. They have been sent via Chailchowk. More than 1000 vehicles have been dispatched from Aut.
Here tourists were staying at hotels and other places due to the closure of NH. Throughout the day, police personnel made arrangements on NH to evacuate the vehicles of tourists and other people.
Police teams were deployed from Aut to near Pandoh. More than 100 tourists identified by the police were from Punjab, Haryana, Hyderabad, Bengal, Odisha, Gujarat.
The police have identified them and sent them to their homes. At the same time, some other tourists will be sent soon after the opening of the route.
Kalka-Shimla rail track closed till 16, NH restored
The Kalka-Shimla rail track will remain closed till July 16. On the other hand, the routes of trains from Nangal to Amb-Daulatpur Chowk remained canceled for the fourth consecutive day. This happened for the second time in history, when the train routes were closed for such a long time.

He also announced the release of a quick relief amount of Rs one crore. He said that the rescue operation is going on continuously to evacuate the stranded tourists and local citizens in the area.
Six helicopters have been made available for this. For better connectivity in Sainj area, the local police administration has been informed on the spot.
Two satellite phones have also been made available. He said that efforts are on to restore power supply in Kullu district. Once the power supply is restored, the pagal supply schemes will also be restored.
Air services have been started to evacuate tourists and local people stranded at various places in the state.
Instructions to evacuate the elderly, women, children and patients first
The CM said, the first helicopter service was started on Tuesday morning to rescue the stranded people in Chandratal, but it has been delayed due to bad weather.
In the evening again the helicopter took off and seven people were safely brought to Bhuntar. The administration has been instructed to evacuate the elderly, women, children and patients from Chandratal. Others stranded in Chandratal are being sent to Kaza.
Shimla: Secretary NHAI has reached Himachal from the center to take stock of the condition of the National Highway in Himachal. Secretary NHAI has assured that efforts will be made to restore the traffic between Kullu and Manali on the Kiratpur-Manali four-lane road in the next 48 hours.
For this, deployment of necessary machinery and staff has been ensured. All possible efforts are also being made to open other national highways. He has also held a meeting with PWD Minister Vikramaditya Singh on the situation in Himachal.
NHAI officials were also present in this meeting. After the meeting, Public Works Minister Vikramaditya Singh said that the rains have caused a lot of damage to other roads including national highways.
It is the effort of the state government and the department that all the closed highways and main roads should be restored soon. He said that he has also spoken to Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari for the restoration of national highways.
The NHAI secretary has been sent by the Center to take stock of the situation. During the meeting, a detailed discussion was held on the damage caused to the Kiratpur-Manali four-lane National Highway.
Authority officials informed that this highway has suffered maximum damage between Raison and Manali. The work of opening this route for all types of vehicles is going on on a war footing.
Public Works Minister said that the flood in Beas river has crossed the previous maximum point and in such a situation, NHAI should consider increasing the height of the National Highway in this area so that such incidents can be avoided in the future.
On this, NHAI assured to conduct a detailed study in collaboration with IIT Roorkee. He also directed to make the traffic smooth on the Shimla-Kalka four-lane road.
The authority informed that at present single-lane traffic is being operated on this route and soon double-lane traffic will be restored from here. He also directed to arrange for an alternative route and to restore this route soon due to damage to the Madanwala bridge on the Pinjore-Baddi-Nalagarh road.
The situation of Chakki bridge on the Pathankot-Mandi highway was also discussed in the meeting. Vikramaditya instructed to take necessary steps for its repair. (hdm)
Shimla. Mild tremors of earthquake were felt in the early hours of Tuesday in Himachal Pradesh’s Chamba, which is facing torrential rains.
Meteorological sources said that the tremors were felt at 1.45 am, whose intensity was measured at 2.8 on the Richter scale.
The epicenter of the earthquake was in Chamba town at 32.65 degree north latitude and 76.57 east longitude and a depth of five kilometers from the ground surface.
There is no report of any loss of life or property due to the earthquake. According to the data of the Meteorological Department, 131 mm of rainfall has been recorded in Chamba district.
Shimla: Due to continuous heavy rains, the education department has made a big change in the monsoon break in all the schools of the state. Now from tomorrow all government and private schools in the state will remain closed.
Monsoon break has been changed according to different districts of the state. The Directorate of Higher Education issued orders in this regard on Tuesday.
As per the orders issued by the department, 23 days monsoon holidays have been declared in district Kullu from July 10 to August 1, while Lahaul and Spiti will have 42 days holidays from July 10 to August 20.
Schools will remain closed till July 15 in Kinnaur, Pangi, and Bharmour. Apart from this, a six-day holiday has been announced till July 15 in the winter closing schools of the state. Schools affiliated to CBSE and ICSE in the state will decide holidays at their own level.
Shimla: The Himachal government has canceled the holidays of government officials and employees by invoking the provisions of the Disaster Management Act in view of the devastation caused by the rains.
On behalf of Chief Secretary Prabodh Saxena, these orders have been issued by Principal Secretary Revenue Onkar Chand Sharma.
The new orders state that under Section 24 of the Disaster Management Act, the leaves of all field officers and employees who are currently on leave are canceled and they are asked to join duty immediately.
This is being done so that there is no delay in the relief and rehabilitation work and it can be done in a time bound manner. It has been said in the orders that no officer or employee will go on leave without first sanctioning leave and this leave will be given only in emergency situations.
Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu held a meeting with administrative secretaries through video conferencing from Hamirpur on Monday and after that such orders have been issued.
Earlier it was decided to cancel the holidays in the Health Department, Public Works Department and Jal Shakti Department, but now a similar order has been issued for all the departments. The state government will now take a decision on extending the school holidays beyond two days after seeing the weather on Tuesday.
