It was the capital of a state established 7th century. Bilaspur known as Kahlur after its earlier capital. The old Bilaspur town was established by sage Ved Vyas. The town Bilaspur was established in 1663. It was later became princely state of British India. In 1665 Guru Tegh Bahadur went to Bilaspur to attend the mourning for Raja Dip Chand.
The Rani Champa of Bilaspur offered to give Guru Tegh Bahadur a piece of land Guru bought that piece of land five hundred rupess. The land made up of Mianpur,Sahota and Lodhipur villages. Guru Tegh Bahadur established a new town on the mound of Makhowal. Today is became famous as Anandpur Sahib. It is famous for Gobind Sagar lake. It offers a variety of water sports. The activities include boating, water skiing surfing,rowing.
