Rs 1.16 crore recovered in Himachal Pradesh so far

SHIMLA: Two persons were arrested along with Rs 7.5 lakh currency notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 denomination during the checking of vehicles at toll tax barrier of Kehri Chowk on Banikhet area of Chamba on Friday.

Since November 8 when Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced demonetisation of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes, around Rs 1.16 crore currency has been seized in the state.

According to senior police officials from Chamba, on Friday around 3.30pm police team stopped a car bearing registration number HP-38C-7283 for checking at the toll tax barrier.

The vehicle was on its way to Pathankot from Banikhet.

Occupant of car identified as Vishlu Ram of Indora, Kangra, and driver Alok Trehan of Dhangu Chowk, Pathankot, were arrested by police and a case was registered against them.
