Anurag Thakur was born on 24 October 1974 in Hamirpur, Himachal Pradesh. He was brought up in Himachal Pradesh only.

Anurag Thakur was interested in the field of cricket since childhood. Along with cricket, he also made his move in political career.

Prem Kumar Dhumal – Union Minister in the Government of India is the father of Anurag Thakur . Prem Kumar himself has also been the former Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh from 2007 to 2012.

While Anurag Thakur’s mother’s name is Sheela Devi, who was a housewife by profession. He has a brother named Arun Kumar Thakur.

Anurag Thakur is married to Shefali Thakur. Anurag and Shefali were married in the year 2002. They also have two sons, whose names are Jayaditya Thakur and Udayveer Thakur.



Anurag Thakur received his early education from Dayanand Model School, a school in Hamirpur, Himachal Pradesh, his place of birth.

After completing his early education, he got his admission in Doaba College and from here he also got his Bachelor’s degree.

Sports Career

Anurag Thakur started his sports career as the captain of the Himachal Pradesh Cricket team. Anurag Thakur played against Jammu and Kashmir in the first class match held during the year 2000 to 2001.

Anurag Thakur faced about 7 balls in this match against Jammu and Kashmir, but was not able to score any runs. Although he took 2 wickets at the time of bowling.


Apart from being in the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association, Anurag Thakur has also held the post of President. He contested for the sectoral post of Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association BCCI and won the election.

Shortly after this victory, he also contested for the post of BCCI President in the year 2016 and won and became the President. After achieving this victory, Anurag Thakur became the second young BCCI President.

Army Career

In the year 2016, on 29 July, Anurag Thakur was selected for an army officer. So after this he was inducted into the Territorial Army as a regular officer.

Anurag Thakur had given selection exam and interview to get this post. Anurag Thakur passed this exam and was sent to Dronacharya Army Unit Bhopal for training for a few days. He completed his training from this center and became a successful officer.


Political Career

Anurag first started his political journey in the year 2008. We are all aware of this fact that politics has been inherited by Anurag. Due to this, he has many such qualities which should be there in a politician.

Anurag contested the BJP seat of Hamirpur in the year 2008. Not only contested the election, but Anurag was also successful in this 14th Lok Sabha election.

After which Anurag Thakur again won from Hamirpur seat for Loksabha election during the year 2009 and 2014.

After this, when the 16th Lok Sabha elections were held, he was declared the President of All India Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha along with winning.


Anurag had made the National Integration Tour from Kolkata to Srinagar successful and along with it had also put the quality of his leadership in front of everyone.

The purpose of this visit was to hoist the tricolor at Lal Chowk in Srinagar, which he also completed.
