For the first time, apples will be transported by drone in Kinnaur

drone training government institute agriculture sector IIT Mandi

Shimla: For the first time in Himachal Pradesh, the work of transporting apples to the market in Kinnaur will be done by drones. After the successful trial of apple transportation by drone last year, the private company will provide the facility to the orchardists this year.

The drone will take 8 minutes to cover 10 km of aerial distance with 5 boxes of 20 kg each. The proposed fare for this has been fixed at Rs 6 per kg.

Most of the apple orchards in Kinnaur are situated on the Kanda (top of the hill). There are no roads in remote areas, due to which the gardeners face difficulty in transporting the crop from the gardens to the main road. Where it takes more time to transport with laborers, at the same time more wages have to be paid.

Drones will solve these problems. Kinnaur produces 30 to 50 lakh boxes of apples annually. Himachal is the first state in the country to make a drone policy.

So far, medicines are being delivered to people in Mandi, Chamba and Lahaul-Spiti, and other remote areas by drones. Samples are also being called for health checkup.

In Kinnaur, drone services will be made available to orchardists for transporting apples from August. For this, a drone with a lifting capacity of 100 kg will be used.

The drone will cover 10 km aerial distance in 7 to 8 minutes. The proposed fare has been fixed at Rs. Although it can also be cut. Ankit Kumar, CEO, Sky Air

Successful trial took place last year

In November last year, a successful trial of transporting apples by drone took place in Nichar, Kinnaur.
In the Mann Ki Baat programme, PM Narendra Modi has mentioned about transporting apples from Kinnaur through drones.

Roads will be made of plastic bitumen

Shimla-Mataur four-lane

Shimla: Researchers have developed an unprecedented method to improve road construction practices. Researchers have devised a method to prepare bituminous concrete mix using fly ash and waste polythene.

It will also effectively address the waste management challenges. Shoolini faculty member Dr. MS Thakur said that by replacing 2-6 percent of the concrete mix with plastic, the cost has been reduced by 10 percent.

The strength of the mix is increased as well as the amount of existing plastic waste is reduced. The idea evolved from the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) regarding the use and management of waste and Shoolini’s focus and conscious efforts towards sustainability.

In addition, the government has granted a patent for the new method to a team of researchers including Noorullah Yusufi, Er Vikas Mehta, Dr. MS Thakur, and Priyanka Panchal.

road construction practices

The patent method has far-reaching effects on the manufacturing industry and the environment. Not only does it provide a sustainable use for the waste materials, but it also reduces the overall environmental footprint of road construction projects.

By diverting fly ash and waste polythene from landfills, Shoolini University’s invention promotes a circular economy and contributes to waste management efforts.

Traditional methods of producing bituminous concrete mix were heavily dependent on natural resources such as stone aggregate and bitumen.

Launch of mission to revolutionize the road construction industry

Recognizing the need for a sustainable solution, the inventors from Shoolini University embarked on a mission to revolutionize the road construction industry.

This method includes fly ash, a by-product of coal combustion, as a partial replacement for stone aggregate in the bituminous concrete mix.

This method not only reduces the demand for raw materials, but also diverts fly ash from landfills, thereby reducing its environmental impact.

In addition, the inventors found that the incorporation of waste polythene, commonly found in plastic bags and packaging, enhances the performance and durability of the bitumen.

shimla himachal pradesh

Shimla. Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu said that efforts are being made to make Shimla the greenest city of the country. For this, the state government is making efforts to set up adequate charging stations in and around Shimla town.

Many pioneering efforts are being made for the smooth operation of e-buses in the city. Taking this initiative forward, Himachal Road Transport Corporation has started the process of setting up five new charging stations for 70 e-buses plying in Shimla city.

An amount of about Rs 3.63 crore has been deposited by the Corporation to the Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board for installation of transformers for these charging stations.

CM Sukhu said that Himachal Road Transport Corporation’s fleet of more than 1500 buses would be replaced by electric buses in a phased manner and for this, adequate charging and other related infrastructure was being created.

He said that new charging points would be set up at Taradevi, Tutikandi crossing, Lalpani, Junga, and Theog in Shimla.

This will provide adequate charging facilities to the buses plying within 40 km radius of Shimla city. In addition, the capacity of the 1,000 KVA charging station set up at Dhalli will also be increased to 2,000 KVA.

The State Electricity Board will now provide transformers for all these charging stations. E-bus chargers will be installed as soon as the transformer is installed.

After the installation of new charging stations, the operation of e-buses will be smooth within a radius of 40 kilometers of the city. Shimla city has recently been provided 20 e-buses under the Smart City Mission, taking its number from 50 to 70.

Out of these, 6-6 buses have been made available to New Shimla and Sanjauli sector and eight buses to the Bus Stand area. HRTC has also issued tenders for purchasing additional new electric buses.

All 70 e-buses will be operated on the local routes of the city, which will turn the public transport system in the capital into a complete e-transport facility and help in keeping the environment of Shimla city clean and pollution free.

The Chief Minister said that the electric vehicle industry in the country is making steady progress and the state government has also launched new schemes and incentives to promote electric mobility in Himachal.

The state government is ensuring that the environment is made carbon-free by reducing the number of vehicles using conventional fossil fuels in the state.

He said that the state government has taken several initiatives to set up charging stations for electric vehicles on national and state highways and other major roads besides Shimla town and started a permanent process of identifying land for the same at the district level.

Hearing on water cess in High Court today, after this government will take next step

Water cess notice Rs 871 crore given power companies

Shimla: Despite the decision of the Himachal government, the producers generating electricity under the jurisdiction of the state are not ready to pay water cess.

Recently, even in the meeting with the committee headed by the Energy Secretary constituted by the state government, the power producers of all three categories were not ready to pay the water cess.

The surprising thing is that the power producers did not even give suggestions on reducing the rate of water cess. The meeting was chaired by Energy Secretary Rajeev Sharma. All 172 power producers were called for this meeting.

The corporation of the Punjab government, which is handling the Shanan power project, also attended the meeting.

Water-Cess-Commission-will-be-formed-in-Himachal

The Public Sector Undertaking companies of the Central Government like SJVN, NHPC, etc. only told the State Government that they all agree with the letter received from the Government of India against the water cess and will work as per the instructions of the Government of India.

Independent power producers running big projects in Himachal also said that the matter is sub-judice and the decision of the court should be awaited.

Water cess will not be paid until the court decides. After this the remaining small power producers.

On the basis of the Uttarakhand formula, he said that why this cess was imposed on small power projects? Does the Government of Uttarakhand also refund it?

Their another argument was that many projects are generating more water cess than the rate at which the electricity board buys power. In such a situation this project will become unviable.

Everyone opposed it in one voice. However, a case is pending in the High Court on June 28 in this matter and what happens to this case? Only after this the government will take the next step.

Salary of the chairperson and four members fixed

On Wednesday, there is a hearing of the case related to water cess in the High Court, on the other hand, just before this, the notification for the formation of the Water Cess Commission has been issued by the state government. A chairperson and four members are being appointed in this.

The salary of the chairperson has been fixed at Rs 135,000, while the members will get Rs 120,000. If a serving officer comes on these posts, then payment will be made by the formula of the last salary minus pension.
