Tanda doctor among 5 new cases in Kangra

Five more persons, including a 28-year-doctor from Tanda medical college, tested positive in Kangra district yesterday. The doctor was posted in the Covid ward and was in quarantine.

Others are a 62-year-old tea vendor from Paprola, 50-year-old head constable posted at Panchrukhi police station, a person from Kulthi panchayat near Kangra, who had returned from Jalandhar, and a Haryana Police constable, who had returned to his native Jamanabad village in Kangra district from Panchkula on April 30.

The OPD in Tanda medical college, which resumed recently, was suspended as a Covid patient visited the hospital and stayed there from 10 am to 12.30 pm.

Sources said a resident of Kulthi panchayat had returned to the district on May 9. The health authorities had taken his sample yesterday. He was asked to stay in home quarantine.

However, the villager visited the Tanda medical college this morning to collect his report and stayed in the hospital for more than two hours. When the hospital authorities came to know that the person was a positive patient, they immediately suspended the OPD. Four workers of the Tanda medical college, who had come in close contact with the patient, had also been quarantined.

There was panic in Paprola and Palampur. A resident of Paprola, who ran a tea shop on a roadside in Banuri near Palampur, tested positive. The person had no recent travel history. The health authorities were expecting that he got the infection from a taxi driver.

The fourth patient was a head constable. He had been deployed at a quarantine centre from where he contracted the infection.

The fifth patient, a constable in Panchkula, was asymptomatic but tested positive. The district administration has declared Jamanabad, Panchrukhi and Paprola as containment zones.

Himachal reports six new coronavirus cases; state tally now 66

this year there will be less rains than normal in rainy season

Himachal Pradesh reported six more coronavirus cases on Tuesday, taking the infection tally in the state to 66, a senior health official said.

Special Secretary (Health) Nipun Jindal said four fresh cases were reported from Kangra district and two from Hamirpur district.

Two men, aged 30 and 50 years, from Hamirpur’s Bajrol area have tested positive. Both are asymptomatic and returned from Delhi on May 1, he said.

Four more cases in Kangra took the district’s COVID-19 tally to 14.

A 62-year-old tea vendor from Paprola, a 50-year-old head constable posted at Panchruhi police station, a 30-year-old more from Jamanabad village and and a person from Kulthi Panchayat, near Kangra, who recently returned from Jalandhar, all tested positive..

Kangra has now has nine active cases, four cured and one death.

The Tanda Medical College was suspended as a coronavirus positive patient roamed about in the hospital over two hours.

Sources said that a resident of Kulthi Panchayat, near Kangra town, had returned to the district on May 19th.

The health authorities on Monday took his sample for testing. He was asked to be under home quarantine.

He was an asymptomatic patient.

However, he came to Tanda Medical College on Tuesday morning and stayed in the hospital for more than two hours.

When authorities learnt that he was a coronavirus patient, they tried to locate him. They came to know that he was at Tanda Medical College.

The authorities immediately suspended the OPD at the medical college. All the patients and their attendants were taken to a hall and sanitised. However, this has created trouble for the health authorities, as they would, now, have to test and keep all the patients and their attendants, who were present, under quarantine in Tanda medical college.

Local police are contemplating to register a case against the coronavirus positive patient, who violated the quarantine conditions and threatened the life of others.

Panic in Paprola and Palampur was created, when a resident of Paprola, who used to run a tea shop near Palampur, also tested positive.

The person has no recent travel history.

He ran the tea shop near Palampur for two days. The authorities are trying to identify the people, who may have been in direct contact, with the COVID-19 patient.

The third patient who tested positive was a head constable posted in Panchrukhi police station. He does not have a travel history. The head constable was on duty at the government quarantine centre, which is where he is likely to have got the corona infection.

The man who tested positive in Jamanabad had recently come back to his village from Panchkula.

The state has 24 active cases of the virus—nine in Kangra, six in Chamba, four in Hamirpur, two in Bilaspur, and one each in Mandi, Una and Shimla.

HP govt takes back ailing 63-year-old stuck in Panchkula

Three days after The Indian Express reported how a 63-year-old who was dependent on oxygen was stuck in one room in his daughter’s PG room in Sector 11, Panchkula, the Himachal Pradesh government on Monday took back Sood and dropped him home at Jubbal safely.

The Haryana government too arranged Sood’s medicines and other essentials for the journey. On Sunday night, the Himachal government had issued the movement pass.

An ambulance was arranged by the government that picked up Sood and his wife and daughter at 10.30 on Monday and dropped them at Jubbal, a place that is at a distance of 100 kilometres from Shimla.

The Indian Express had reported how Sood whose lungs are just 27 per cent functioning and has other serious ailments had come with his wife to attend his daughter’s engagement but got stranded in one room due to the lockdown.

With an obsolete oxygen machine, the 63-year-old found it difficult to breathe and would even spend sleepless nights on a verandah attached to the room as the obsolete oxygen machine emitted a lot of heat, thereby suffocating the room.

After the story, a resident gave his new oxygen machine to Sood which does not emit heat.

Until the Himachal government completed the formalities of movement and medical procedure, the Haryana government too arranged ration and all other essentials required by Sood.

“We did not face any problem during the entire journey and everything was smooth. We thank everyone for their support and for saving my father,” Raashi, Sood’s daughter, said.
